STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Director of Accounting and Finance of this diverse, privately held and rapidly growing commercial RE development and property management firm. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the day-to-day Accounting and Finance functions of more than 500,000 SF of commercial retail, industrial and warehouse space throughout the DC Metro area and New Jersey.

Maven’s development pipeline includes grocery anchored, high street retail, senior housing, contaminated/stigmatized properties, and green energy initiatives including photovoltaic energy systems. The firm manages its commercial real estate and solar energy portfolio in-house and is actively expanding its development capabilities to include data centers.

This is an ideal position for a candidate seeking the leading-edge challenge of complex renewable energy and real estate financing transactions and the desire to work with institutional quality assets throughout their lifecycle. The candidate must display strong attention to detail, have real estate property management accounting experience and embody a team-oriented spirit. We maintain flexible office hours and encourage telecommuting from our Bethesda, MD office.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS WITH ALL STAKEHOLDERS:

- Perform analytical procedures applied to financial data for each general ledger account of all assigned entities on a monthly schedule and coordinates with Property Management on variances and reconciliation issues

- Track cash flow activity for each property in the assigned portfolio

- Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations on all entity accounts

- Prepare accurate and timely reports, including monthly and quarterly reports, as needed

- Reconcile gross rent potential, prepaid rent, rent receivable, accounts payable, and accrued expenses with subsidiary ledgers on a monthly schedule to ensure accuracy

- Perform quarterly and semi-annual internal audit functions as assigned

- Prepare annual audit packages for all assigned properties to assist with audits, reviews, compilations, and tax return preparation

- Liaise with external accountants

- Post all adjusting journal entries relating to assigned entities prepared by the tax preparer or auditor

- Analyze and maintain escrow accounts (tax and insurance), loan amortization, and replacement reserve activity of each assigned entity as needed

- Complete other duties and projects, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

- BA/BS in Accounting or Finance with 3+ years of real estate accounting experience

- Previous experience in a real estate environment highly desired but not required, will train the right candidate

- Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and the application of general accounting theory

- Demonstrated solid conceptual judgment, initiative, and ability to manage complex accounting issues

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written

- Exemplary problem-solving and analytic skills

- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with a keen sense of urgency, works well under pressure, and consistently meets deadlines

- Advanced Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel

- Knowledge of MRI software highly desirable
